Provenance: Friedrich Quiring (born 1886), Eberswalde (collector's stamp verso in brown, Lugt 1041C)

 

A rare proof impression before the plate was cleaned. 

 

A proof impression was sold at the auction of the Lanna Collection at Lepke, Berlin, in May, 1911; the auction catalogue stated that about 15 proof impressions had been printed.

condition: full margins; somewhat light-streaked; slight scratch marks; handwritten signature somewhat faded or indistinct (as is typical for von Stuck's etchings).


There are two stamps on the verso of this impression:

 

"K. B. H. Z. A. München," the stamp of the Royal Bavarian Main Customs Office (Königlich Bayrisches Hauptzollamt)

 

"Bundesdenkmalamt," the Federal Monuments Office of Austria.
