Rolf von Hoerschelmann was a Baltic-German illustrator, collector, writer and bohemian.  His social circle included Heinrich and Thomas Mann, Richard Dehmel, Hermann Hesse, Stefan George, Franziska Gräfin zu Reventlow, and many other literati of his time; he had a particularly close friendship with artist Alfred Kubin.
