Otto Weigel (1890-1950)
"Die Welle" ("The Wave")
etching and aquatint
52 × 39 cm
1921
signed in pencil lower right: "Otto Weigel"
From Weigel's cycle of 9 original etchings entitled Einfälle. 1. Teil, Opus 2 [Ideas. 1st part, Opus 2]. The Daulton Collection owns the entire cycle of nine prints, one of twenty copies.
Otto Weigel (1890-1950) was a pupil of Alois Kolb and Peter Halm; Weigel later became a teacher at the "Meisterschule des Deutschen Handwerks" in Leipzig. The fantastically surrealist scenes of his Einfälle cycle recall the similar work of Max Klinger and Otto Greiner.
