Hans Unger (1872-1936) was one of the leading Symbolist artists in fin-de-siècle Dresden.  Salome, and the femme fatale generally, was a common subject in Symbolist art.  Unger’s wife and muse, Marie Antonia, was his model for this wonderful print, a rare signed example, and for much of his other work.

The Daulton Collection owns three impressions of Unger's Salome lithograph, including one impression from the famous collection of Heinrich Stinnes (1867-1932).
