Willy Oertel studied at the Düsseldorf Academy, but it was his move to Munich in 1895 and his contact with the young generation of the Jugendstil avant-garde that transformed his historicist style into a purely secessionist and modernist language. His collaboration with the famous magazine Jugend dates back to the early years of the century.
