Probably an illustration of the house of the Seven Dwarfs in Snow White, the 19th-century German fairy tale of the Brothers Grimm [Das Zwergenhaus (Schneewittchen)].

Probably an illustration of a scene from the 19th-century fairy tale "The Snow Queen" ["Snedronningen"] ["Die Schneekönigin"] by Hans Christian Andersen: the scene where Gerda breaks free of the sorceress's spell of forgetfulness after Gerda's tears cause a rose tree to sprout from the earth, jogging her memories, bringing her back to her senses.  Wöhler depicts Gerda embracing the rose tree.

Rübezahl is a moody giant or mountain spirit (Schrat) of the Giant Mountains, the highest mountains in the Czech Republic and Silesia. Numerous legends and fairy tales surround him.
