Probably an illustration of a scene from the 19th-century fairy tale "The Snow Queen" ["Snedronningen"] ["Die Schneekönigin"] by Hans Christian Andersen: the scene where Gerda breaks free of the sorceress's spell of forgetfulness after Gerda's tears cause a rose tree to sprout from the earth, jogging her memories, bringing her back to her senses. Wöhler depicts Gerda embracing the rose tree.
