Enzian is the German name for the alpine flowering plant with the scientific name Gentiana clusii, also known as Clusius' gentian and as flower of the sweet-lady.



"In Würzburg, Matthäus Schiestl completed an apprenticeship in his father's carving workshop.  In 1894, he then began studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Wilhelm von Diez Schiestl, among others, eventually developing into an important painter of German folk art."  B (loose English translation from German original, below)
