Discussion:
"Eva in Paradise. She stands as straight as the young apple tree next to her, whose trunk she confidently grasps with her left hand. Rothaug's anatomical studies are clearly evident in the completely frontal figure of Eva, especially in the fine pencil lines of the vertical axis, the horizontal at the height of the shoulders, pelvis and knees, and the circle beginning at the navel. Light applied in light yellow and white on the hair, the curves of Eva's body, and those of the apples as well as the white dots in the meadow break through the muted tonality of the depiction, which is characterized by the gray background. In the right margin, a small composition sketch as well as notes on the theme of the 'half sun' and the coloring of the sky, earth, and water; on the reverse a fragment of another composition." B
["Eva im Paradies. Sie steht ebenso gerade wie der junge Apfelbaum neben
ihr, dessen Stamm sie vertraut mit ihrer linken Hand umfasst. Rothaugs
anatomische Studien zeigen sich deutlich in der vollkommen frontal
ausgerichteten Figur der Eva, insbesondere in den feinen Bleistiftlinien
der vertikalen Achse, der Horizontalen auf der Höhe von Schultern,
Becken und Knien und des beim Bauchnabel beginnenden Kreises. In
hellem Gelb und Weiß aufgebrachte Lichter auf dem Haar, den Run
dungen von Evas Körper und auf denen der Äpfel sowie die weißen Tupfen
in der Wiese durchbrechen die gedeckte, vom grauen Unter grund geprägte
Tonalität der Darstellung. Im rechten Rand eine kleine Kompo sitions
skizze sowie Anmerkungen zum Thema 'Halbsonne' und zur Farbge
bung von Himmel, Erde und Wasser; verso Fragment einer weiteren
