"Franz Stassen created this stone for his main work, the four-part cycle of Wagner's Ring of the Nibelung. The rare series was created around 1916-1928 and included a total of 120 illustrations that combine ornamental elements of Art Nouveau with the realistic design of the 19th century. Stassen studied at the drawing school in Hanau and at the Berlin Academy and devoted his paintings and illustrations primarily to motifs from the world of myths and legends. He was close friends with Richard Wagner's family, especially Cosima Wagner." B
"Franz Stassen schuf diesen Stein für sein Hauptwerk, den vierteiligen Zyklus zu Wagners Ring der Nibelungen. Die seltene Serie entstand ca. 1916-1928 und umfasste insgesamt 120 Illustrationen, die ornamentale Elemente des Jugendstils mit der realistischen Formgebung des 19. Jahrhunderts verbinden. Stassen studierte an der Zeichenschule in Hanau und an der Berliner Akademie und widmete sich in seinen Gemälden und Illustrationsarbeiten vorwiegend den Motiven aus der Mythen- und Sagenwelt. Eine enge Freundschaft verband ihn mit der Familie von Richard Wagner, insbesondere Cosima Wagner." B
