Discussion:

"Coltsfoot, daisies, clover, and grasses - the simplest meadow flowers are a charming contrast to the elegant outfit of the lady, who is probably the artist's wife. Bright daylight falls into the picture from the front left and, like the charming jumble of meadow flowers, underlines the naturalness of the lady's portrait in front of a greenish shimmering wall with an ornamental border. With a glazed application of paint and fine, controlled, crossing and overlapping brush strokes, Rothaug lovingly models the brightly shimmering flesh tones and the updo, while the dress and flower vase in the foreground remain more loosely dashed and dotted."  B
