Dr. Anton Becker (Budkau, Moravia 1868-1955 Vienna) was an Austrian teacher, geographer, and conservator of historical monuments.  In 1909, he became director of the Imperial and Royal Educational Institution in Oberhollabrunn [k. k. Bildungsanstalt in Oberhollabrunn], where he had previously worked and where teachers for the Austrian civil service were trained. Shortly thereafter, he moved to the Lower Austrian Teachers' Academy at the Pädagogium in Vienna.

Gertrud Mediz likely created this watercolor as a student work, circa 1909, when she was 16.
