Condition: With minor signs of use. Barely visible staining and discoloration. Upper margin with minimal irregularities. Verso with traces of old mounting. Otherwise in good condition.
Provenance: Collection Wolfgang Gurlitt, Linz/Munich, thereafter by descent through inheritance until acquired by The Daulton Collection at auction in Munich in 2019.
Discussion:
Dr. Ludwig Gurlitt (Vienna 1855–1931 Freudenstadt, Württemberg) was a progressive educator, who was associated with the origin of the back-to-nature youth movement known as Wandervogel.
Fritz Gurlitt (Vienna 1854-1893 Leipzig), the brother of Ludwig Gurlitt, was a noted art dealer and collector active in Berlin.
Wolfgang Gurlitt (Berlin 1888-1965 Munich), the son of Fritz Gurlitt, was also a noted art dealer and collector, and a publisher.
