This small painting was apparently very dear to Fidus.  He hung it on the wall in his Woltersdorf home-studio just above the left side of his desk for many years, as can be seen in this signed photograph from 1920 in The Daulton Collection:

By the artist, signed "Fidus" on the reverse at a later date, dated, and inscribed with the following handwritten text:

" 'Der Künstler bei den Akten - doch leider selten gemalten!' Rechts die 'Frühmesse' um deren Urbild in Weimar mit anderen aus noch größerm testamentarischen Rückerhalt ich noch mich abmühe und sorge. Oben die Galerie vor der die große 'Ausgießung' aufragte."

To the right, the 'Early Mass,' the original of which in Weimar, along with others from an even larger testamentary bequest, I am still struggling and worrying about. Above, the gallery in front of which the large 'Outpouring' stood."]
