This print is the ninth impression of the fifth state. The fifth state of this print is part of the first edition of the Vom Tode, Erster Teil cycle, which consisted of twenty signed trial proofs, including the present copy.
Provenance: Maximilian (Max) Morgenstern (1883-1946) and his wife Hertha Morgenstern nee Israel (1900-1962), Vienna, who acquired the print directly from the artist, thence by descent in the familly until acquired by The Daulton Collection.
Condition: with full margins, in good condition, pale paper discoloration, very pale scattered foxing, a diagonal crease along lower sheet edge, the upper left tip of sheet folded, remnants of previous hinging along right sheet edge verso
