Discussion:

With an expert opinion by Dr. Renate Hartleb, Leipzig, dated August 6, 2003.

This is a rare and important preparatory drawing depicting two members of a group (one model being Klinger's main acolyte, artist Otto Greiner) listening to Homer, a cartoon for the monumental mural "Hellas (Die Blüte Griechenlands)" ["Hellas (The Prime of Greece)"] at the assembly hall of the University of Leipzig (1909); the mural was destroyed in December 1943 during an air raid.
